Weird Fishes, though House of Cards isn't far off. Bodysnatchers is a scuzzy rock jam, not sure where the link is there?
"I'm skimming IR's now and it confuses me how many people don't see the connection to post-rock and krautrock"
Because virtually no-one here listens to krautrock or (to a lesser extent) old school post-rock :'[ I acc need to touch base with krautrock tbh, big blind spot for me
Too much explosions in the sky and mono perverting the concept of post-rock. [2] always

has radiohead passed the torch yet or are they still considered the 'now' rock band

i cant think of a modern rock band with their kind of reach or influence

or did things just die off and they were the last truly great rock act?

"Bodysnatchers" is connected to NEU! (And as an extension, many of the UK post-rock bands Radiohead was surrounded by)

Weird Fishes is the only track I care for on IR's lol

I read a review by some dude on sputnikmusic.com saying that ...Like Clockwork was a contemporary rock classic, so that means rock's still ali-
Shit me, suddenly seven years seems like a long time ago.

In 10 years, rock will be dead and only Boris will remain
""Bodysnatchers" is connected to NEU!"
Interesting. I hear Talking Heads in that one too

That's really interesting. Psycho Killer was influenced by one of NEU's songs.

"and they also don't have the worldwide acclaim that radiohead does"
In critical circles yup, but I think they've got a comparable commercial platform. Maybe. It's a weird thought; regardless of whether it's dying/dead, what does rock need to stay alive for (other than great live experiences)? I don't mean that as a rhetorical question, but it's harder to answer than feels comfortable

I'm not saying it needs to at all. Let it die. I'm just curious if Radiohead has the distinction of being the last huge rock act. Did they just swallow the torch instead of passing it on?

They only have one self titled album : )

Hmm, I guess the line might be that rock lost the wind from its sails when it stopped being a relevant vehicle for discontent some time towards the late '00s, and Radiohead just found other ways of expressing this (and other things to express) better than most? There's also the question or not Radiohead have counted as a rock band since IR

>implying the underground scene of rock isn't blossoming at all

anyways, guys, as long as rock is underground, it will stay there forever. it's just dead on a mainstream level, really. Let's not forget all the excellent underground rock artists from over the years

I'm not implying that the underground rock scene isn't blossoming, in fact that's sort of precisely my point. If the way rock is being created and consumed has transformed into an underground status - then wouldn't that make Radiohead the last culturally huge rock band? Don't mistake my inquiry for the "keep rock n' roll alive" argument.

"culturally huge" is relative, but anyways, I don't think Radiohead was the last. I don't remember their name, but I believe there was one last band who had an actual massive cultural impact. And I don't mean Tool, they have almost zero influence whatsoever.

"then wouldn't that make Radiohead the last culturally huge rock band"

Coldplay, Blink-182, Gorillaz, Panic! at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, Nickelback, Linkin Park,

All bands that are more culturally significant :^)

" I don't mean Tool, they have almost zero influence whatsoever."
huh
