i liked Electioneering because it was kinda straightforward rockin but between that and Let Down i zoned out and forgot what i was listening to.
|

"There are a ton of ideas here lifted from previous 90s indie and post-rock groups, which i think were done much better then than here."

any of the post-rocky diddling is better on Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, the jazziness and weird-rock is better in Tortoise, the art rock was done better in Stereolab. I haven't been on the post-rock brain in quite a while so my recollection on specifics isn't great rn but I know this feels in a lot of ways like a culmination of 90s experimentation while not actually being that good.

Talk Talk meets Beatles, what's not to like?? Try a late night listen or when feeling a bit melancholic

Yeah kind of wish zaru was right bc that sounds awesome

There is a little bit of Talk Talk in Radiohead. + Some Tortoise on later albums.
I wouldn't say Ok Computer is primarily a product of 90's post-rock though. There are a lot of influences here.

Regarding zaru's comments...
Sometimes a combination of influences/styles mesh well together and become greater as a whole - I'd never listen to this if my over-ridding yearning was for first-wave post-rock, but it's more than that (as you made plainly clear). Essentially I'm saying just because it doesn't necessarily excel in anyone area (I disagree on that though), doesn't mean it isn't special as a whole when piecing together all the individual elements.
I'd say a huge part of Radiohead in general is Yorke's incomparable voice, so I guess if you're not sold on it that's a massive obstacle towards potential engagement right away.

"I'd never listen to this if my over-ridding yearning was for first-wave post-rock"
Exactly this 100%. You would listen to In Rainbows.

Why are we talking about Talk Talk more than Talking Heads as a RH influence
"Exactly this 100%. You would listen to In Rainbows."
The song this applies to most is one of the worst on the album tho

Which is it? Reckoner, House of Cards or Bodysnatchers?

I'm skimming IR's now and it confuses me that many people don't see the connection to post-rock and krautrock. There is literally a song called Faust Aup, a tribute to the German band.
Too much explosions in the sky and mono perverting the concept of post-rock.
"Talk Talk more than Talking Heads"
I don't hear more Talking Heads in their music. But it's probably true given their name.
