not sure where i stand on the sunbather debate, its close. on one hand i think this is easily their best from a songwriting perspective, they really tightened up the songs, combined all the best elements of their previous albums while cutting the elements that didnt work. on the other hand though, the only song that really reaches the heights of dreamhouse/sunbather t/t/pecan tree is winona (might be their best song) and maybe heathen. everything else is great but not quite as iconic

I think sunbather is a better record than this but I think this is about level with new Bermuda. I really appreciate the sprinkles of the last record too because I didn’t hate it, I just didn’t want it to only be shoegaze until the last song

God damn that setlist is fucking fire… but I’d swap Garden Route for Body Behavior

I am actually shocked Body Behaviour isn't on the setlist. That track seems specifically made for a live setting. Also, I'd like The Marvelous Orange Tree as well but I wouldn't know what to swap it out with.

Gotta bump this to a 5 after seeing them tonight, what an incredible show only second to their Sunbather anniversary show.

These guys were fucking incredible in Philly! Second time seeing them but they killed it even more than the first time (especially since they played a much killer set).

I really enjoyed The Garden Route when they played it live; it seemed like a good way to add some variety to the setlist. Amethyst was huge and I was amazed that they also played straight through the interlude to Revolator. The breather that came with the interlude was appreciated and really well planned.

Yeah the Garden Route was one of those songs that weren’t necessarily my favorite off the new album but it was absolutely stunning live.

This albums gets better and better with each listen. It's gonna be really hard to top this for me this year. The way it flows, the dynamic songwriting and overall sense of whole is unparallelled for the genre. Best blackgaze ever.

This is probably top 5 blackgaze but that's mainly because there are probably less than 10 black gaze albums that I don't find boring as shit or completely generic

This is the first record in a long time for me that demanded I pay attention to it. That's probably not saying much overall because I've lately just been getting back into actively listening to music that isn't classical, video game OSTs, or variations of video game OSTs, but holy fuck was this a good record to kick my ass fully back to where it belongs with music. I was hooked from start to finish, reading every line of lyric as each song progressed. If this isn't your thing, I respect that. But fuck, if this didn't surpass Sunbather for me. And I already adored Sunbather.
