btbam was awesome in silver spring last night but gotta say they should not be an opener anymore... or at the very least have their audience in mind when constructing their setlists

their shows only really work if they're playing to their own fanbase... they got zero crowd reaction and anytime they played a slower/goofier section dudes would just yell stupid shit. not really a whitechapel fan, and had never even heard of khemmis, but the crowd was way more into them despite being lower on the ticket.

not really sure why they would play songs like "never seen / future shock" and "the future is behind us" for an audience of trivium fans

not like they stopped writing heavy tracks on their new albums though

setlist coulda been something like

1. monochrome / double helix (instead of sun of nothing)

2. revolution in limbo

3. extremophile elite

4. obfuscation (instead of never seen)

5. condemned to the gallows (instead of future is behind us)

doesn't have to be all silent circus tracks or something

"Nothing wrong with sun of nothing being there..?"

Yeah my thought process there was just keeping at least 20 minutes of colors 2 material more than anything + obfu just has that big hook energy never seen has without the "goofy" parts and also fits the "old song" quota sun was fulfilling

And lmao yeah I can't ever imagine them cutting up their songs and doing dream theater type medleys or cutting sections out of songs... i know they've done things where they've only played half of swim to the moon, started obfuscation from that part from that bass groove section, and did a medley of debut/silent circus songs... but them doing like a 15 minute parallax medley!? the transitions in those songs are already super difficult as is I can't imagine transitioning to different songs haha... and I'd want my money back if they ever did a "condensed version" of white walls lol

Also this isn't to say I didn't like the set they actually played, besides thinking future was kind of a strange choice for a closer even if it does have that breakdown at the end

blake brought out the rock band drum pads for never seen shit was tight af

if they were set on playing those five songs i would've done sun / elite / never seen / behind / and closed with limbo

i think limbo will be played at every show they play for the next 5-10 years, if not the rest of their career... truly amazing hook for a band who only writes like 1-2 per album

so 18 months removed from release i no longer think this is their best non-colors album

monochrome / double helix / revolution is the album's strongest stretch. revolution in particular i feel like is one of their greatest achievements period.

never seen is a song i find kinda boring nowadays. just feels slow and plodding and is one of their very few 10ish minute songs i feel doesn't really justify its run time. stare into the abyss is good at what its going for and transitions nicely into prehistory, but having it follow up never seen just makes the 2nd quarter of this album feel like a huge lull.

prehistory still slaps i don't care what anyone says

bad habits is another high point but has also slightly grown off me... future is behind us is fun still though i think everything after the breakdown could've been cut

turbulent has always been my least favorite track and it remains that way

human is hell is still great

overall i feel like this def could've been cut by like 20 minutes, which i can't really say for any of their other albums. great misdirect and parallax 2 and probably alaska clear it

my btbam ratings are inversely proportional to how disjointed, unfocused, and badly written their shit sounds
