this is the first album jesse has ever made where i feel like he fills it with 100% purposeful material (as impulse/augment are only like 75% written by him so they dont count lol) so i definitely understand that. mans had massive shoes to fill. i think it works for me so well here bc i think his riffs mirror and spell out the way he writes his vocal melodies too, and that's why cure/pale iris have fallen so flat for me bc they feel like anyone could made them

“It's like a song off the new Ghost Atlas album but with a breakdown lol”
Yes but it’s bland GA with no vibe connection and a pigeon holed boring breakdown
I hope it grows on me but man something about it rubbed me the wrong way
JT just straight scratching ass the first 2 mins

hope it grows on you too brother. i loved the vibe lol really great layers on it. sounds like there's some subtle reversing going on towards the start and they're gorgeous. creates like an icy vibe. as someone who thinks the new ghost atlas album is some stock imovie shit, this is nowhere as generic to me lol
i'm glad that jt isn't shoehorned in the start of the song lol it wouldn't really work. think they use him very tastefully on the new one which is pretty refreshing

this song is fucking great. feels fully untethered from their early material in a way they only kinda half embraced before, love that jesse is singing shit that he can actually sing live too. also the first time the guitars haven't sounded thin as fuck since augment

hawks is a fan? im surprised
Believe it or not I dig stuff like this when its not constant insufferable, bland chugging and doesn't have god awful whiny vocals that make me wanna bash my head of a cement wall.

as a fan of this band, it has constant chugging and whiny vocals, it's why I like it

cure is the only erra song where jesse's ever sounded "whiny" to me ngl. as undeniably high as his voice is, i think that's more of a timbral/delivery thing

Pretty much all metalcore bands have whiny vocals besides like, Spiritbox, they're all high tenor, Periphery is just this but more proggy, which is why I like it
|

Album Rating: 3.5
periphery s/t was the most polarizing album that has ever been discussed on this site

Tundra you mean the metalcore bands YOU listen to. Have you ever jammed Coalesce, Zao, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Converge, Amia Venera Landscape etc??? Don't lump all metalcore bands in with ur shit taste lol.

I used to be selective on the whiny vocals I liked too, for instance, Invent Animate vocals took a couple years to grow on me, it's all whiny vocals, always has been, Memphis May Fire vocals as whiny aa Periphery, Amia has whiny cleans, Converge could be perceived as whiny screechy vox

Album Rating: 4.3
Amia's vox are whiny at all holy fuck you are the most dense human ever. Either than or u don't actually listen to anything that you say you do.
