@ cosmicpie - i'm just joking around obviously but rylan (and the last two natty albums) are the very essence of that scene in trainspotting where sick boy is talking about lou reed's solo career

it's not bad, but it's not great either, is it? and in your heart you kinda know that although it sounds alright, it's actually just... shite

yes I stopped rating stuff because it was ruining my enjoyment of all music (i.e. couldn't switch off my inner voice analysing everything)

nevertheless the more I listen to this and compare it to boxer et al the more clear it becomes the band is running very low on SONG ideas hence the desperate grasping at bells and whistles and trickery to try cover it

That was and still is how I view beast. Band has become a load of waffle.

Beast is half good.

This is not.

As Tommy states - this album is embellishment overload. That direction was hinted at on the last album but there were still six decent tunes.

I prefer this to beast but yeah it’s all so paper thin now. Band used to be a three course meal now it’s a poncy starter that nobody actually ordered.

More like this, and Beast are embellished turds amirite
Let's be honest, we all knew it was coming though. Trouble gave everyone a more than subtle hint.

Nobody Else, Day I Die, System Only Dreams, Guilty Party, Carin, Sleep Well Beast

Just listen to those six in order and tell me they’re not superior to this :/

At least they’re identifiable songs

This is actually the fancy side dish, they just forgot to provide the meat. No substance.

Doof I agree SWB still has some belters, especially the opener and system dreams, but also hinted at the well starting to run dry which was sadly confirmed with this one

people seemed to love dark side gym but that was the biggest worry of the lot for my money, one of the most cliche overused chord progressions of all time and then a fucking key change of all things
