it's:

3 mins of alcest-worship

a minute of slow bm

almost a full minute of bad solo

another min of slow bm

a minute of basic chugs that don't go anywhere

some more bm that doesn't go anywhere

chug fadeout.

sans the solo none of those sections is bad per se but structurally it never really goes anywhere or builds. It's just one section then another, no climaxes, no real tempo changes. It's just a slog for ten mins.

Baby Blue definitely has a climax I think - that section before the chug fadeout is a pretty clear high point "God has sent my calamity ... " etc

it's so bad tho. This album tho, I have come around to. It's still clunky af with the bookends and night people being awkward, but the four inside tracks are all great. If this was 38 mins long it'd be great.

I have no memory of that song and even less of the tracks I checked here, but I strongly doubt this is better than NB hmm

There's simply nothing captured in this album of the same stock that made Sunbather such a special and important release. It isn't even DH by the numbers like New Bermuda largely was. The songwriting here is simply stilted, with awkward and uninspired transitions all over the place.

Really solid effort. Imo New Bermuda is their best record to date. This one is characterised by more calm approach, musically and lyrically. And Worthless Animal on their Audiotree Far Out appeareance is a worthless animal.

Pretty sweet and calm album. Top-shelf band, kings of blackgaze, together with Alcest, agreed with Pika on that.
