FI and this album are two monumental disappointments. Uninspired, tepid instrumentals, zero payoff, and the classic ‘modern’ phoned in Maynard vocals. Zzzz.

The first 2/3rds of FI are exactly what i wanted. It really shits the bed after that. CCtrip is pointless - The whole album is basically a drum solo. Culling voices first half is great and the second half is embarrassing and then tempest ranges from cringe to boring to cool to boring

Re-listened to this and I insist this is a good album if you re-arrange the songs as such:
1. The Doomed
2. Disillusioned
3. The Contrarian
4. TalkTalk
5. Delicious
6. By And Down The River
7. So Long And Thanks For All The Fish
8. DLB
9. Hourglass
10. Eat The Elephant
11. Feathers
12. Get The Lead Out

I kinda hope that APC or Tool don't make new music because maynards lyrics now are a horrible combination of boomer and early 2000's edgelord and he's letting both teams down.

Maynards work general sucks since after the last Tool album. He phoned it in so much on FI it's embarrassing

I swear every time I try to give a song from this album a chance, I end up cringing and skipping.

I like about 3 songs off of this and the rest is complete crap. I'm also glad folks see how vapid and ineffectual Maynard's lyrics and general perspective as "an artist" is these days. FI was just a hodge-podge of old TOOL riffs and ideas that they cobbled together into a semi-competent album. Wouldn't surprise me if Maynard just pulled lyrics from a decade old journal of ideas/thoughts rather than generate anything new of substance. Nothing about FI felt fresh.

Pneuma is the name of a poster they had in the early 2000's so you might be on to something here.

"Chancellor noted that one of many guitar riffs used in the track “7empest” traced back to musical ideas written by Jones back in the mid-1990s."
If Jones is pulling ideas from 20 years ago, I wouldn't put it past Maynard to whip open a journal of Y2K musings he felt were still relevant.

Yeah his lyrics are a far cry from 10000 Days(song) here. Quite a bit of these just boils down to boomer sentiment.

This album is shockingly bad in every possible way.
