"this album kinda sounds like what Loveless would sound like if they were actually experienced/technically proficient enough to bring the idea its cover conveys to life"

this might genuinely be my least favorite comment ever

lmao as if it matters at all but even the point is incorrect. in no way is this more “”””technical””” than loveless

literally every aspect of this album is more technical than anything on Loveless, not just in terms of how the instrumentals are played but also the production and overall sound is just miles ahead of anything on Loveless. it's so much fuller and more lively. they just didn't know how to do it back then, or they definitely would have

like, replace loveless with teen dream in every one of your comments preferably ever and you'd probs have a 6/10 plausible take
but this has so little in common in loveless beyond the fact that both are termed shoegaze by people who actually understand what shoegaze is that you'd be better off replacing your entire set of synapses and relearning how to type as an extra precaution

yeah they have little in common cause this cuts out the dry boring amateurish sounds of Loveless with an expansive, ethereal pallet of godly guitar arrangements that actually have a sense of scope to them, some actual drive, and don't sound like shit with headphones. that's why it's better. I also feel like all shoegaze is united in its quest to convey the same sort of intangible energy so it's reasonable to compare it no matter how different it sounds
