This album does have a bit more depth, but at heart it is still sadly far too basic and simple verse/chorus oriented to hold my long term attention. Nowhere close to their pre The Hunter levels of creativity.
It's still a good album, I do like Scorpion Breath a lot and the Pink Floydish moments on Clandestiny (I think that's the one?). But I don't think the songwriting here is as strong as The Hunter. Show Yourself is pretty embarrassing as well.

"Roots Remain" might just be Brent's best guitar solo.

^^^^
this, probably my highlight of the record tbh. Reminded me of the solo in the czar which is also one of my favourite moments off CTS.

Every Mastodon solo sounds the same

Listen to the first two songs on CTS and try again.

They've had different vibes across their discog and the solos do too.
|

Let me rephrase: The solos played on each album sound identical, i.e. CTS solos sound the same, Emperor's New Groove solos sound the same, etc. It's fine though, they fit the music, which is what matters.
