I mean the first album is fine, but the songwriting and playing have come leaps and bounds since, they really have gotten better with each album. That's not to say s/t doesn't kick ass, Reservoir goes fucking hard.

I feel like songwriting was peak then. Yukon was great and there's nothing really like it now. Also Factories, probably their best closer

I think i prefer it slightly to their 1st just because of full blown meltdown and sibling rivalry

i'm curious about why the RYM average for the new one is higher than all their other albums. not that i think morbid stuff is their worst, just don't know if it's clearly their best.

agreed here. for me, the difference between debut and Dream comes down to the quality of the hook writing. imo basically every hook on the first album was a stroke of genius (Yukon is a really good example; as you say, there aint anythin like it on the next couple albums) whereas im underwhelmed by or straight up dislike a lot of the hooks and choruses on the second (doubts, coast, wounds, patterns). and i know theres more to songwriting than hooks and choruses but it still felt like the songs on Dream kinda revolved around those.

i fucking love aspects of that song. sonically, it's exactly the kinda shit i like; an already naturally loud and relatively overblown band taking it to the fuckin limit. buuuut at the level of songwriting i just think there's some weaknesses, namely the chorus ("you keep tryna open old wounds") and the bridge where steve starts repeating those four notes (the first four notes he plays in the song); those parts seem pretty uninspired and kinda kill the momentum of the song for me whenever i get to them.
it's kinda the way i feel about "scorpion hill" off the new one. like i love every part of the song except the chorus ("down and out i've been on the rocks"), but becuz it's the chorus, it kinda messes up the whole song for me.

Does anyone know if Stefan Babcock is a father? The lyrics kinda hint at that but I’m not sure
