Could be cool, despite not being head-over-heels for the one CW album I've heard. I certainly liked her vocals, just wasn't quite as enamoured with it musically.

Her vocals combined with CoL's soundscape mastery... getting hard just thinking about it.

I think most CoL releases are good, but this is just hella good and it's because Julie stops the monotony of the growl. m2c

Monotony from a CoL record? Fat chance of that.

Are we for real questioning the fact that someone can think post metal with 12 minute songs can be monotone sometimes?
Like get off the fucking high horse and go back bitchin on fear inoculum

Lol
CoL is anything but monotonous. Fear Inoculum on the other hand... fuck.

Lol indeed, what an unnecessary comment. I have barely been making any comments in that thread, at least not ones that can be described as 'bitchin', but it seems whatever I said must've somehow touched a nerve.

"Are we for real questioning the fact that someone can think post metal with 12 minute songs can be monotone sometimes?"
absolutely not. hardly the case with col though if you give it any thought

I've seen them live a couple times and know pretty well their discog to say that I always wished they had more variety in their monolithic sound and that's why I really prefer this disc over the rest of their stuff
that's it, no thoughts needed I'm not saying Vertikal is a pile of crap.

Every release is different, they're easily one of the more creative post-metal bands out there, but yeah, a prog band they are not.

"a prog band they are not"
look i know a lot of y'all are new-ish to the band, so let's not make any false claims

Are you suggesting they are a prog band? - I'm a little unsure what you're saying here. They certainly venture outside of the box, but prog might be a stretch, at least in the traditional sense.

prog is a really vague term these days anyway

i'm suggesting to not be worried on what to pigeonholing them with cuz since their first record they had prog influences, obviously not in the traditional sense cuz prog rock/metal stems from 20+ years before CoL and also not in the sense of what one label to stick on their forehead. yea i'd call these guys post-metal since I've done so in 2006 when I learned of the damn term, and they're much more than that since that's what post-metal should imply.
which is also becoming a vague term these days. it's starting to not matter anymore.

They do try to evolve their sound with every release but it's definitely not typical prog sound. Prog elements perhaps.

I’m not trying to pigeonhole them, I was critiquing Lunatic’s stance that they wanted CoL to have more ‘variety’ - they have plenty already. They maintain a core sound, but that’s a strength as far as I’m concerned.

"this was a sweet project, the point is col can easily do without her"
what is the point of this statement? they fucking rip together, and they both rip in their own respective bands. not sure why you feel the need to bash Julie, especially since this record would've been way worse without her

All that was being pointed out is they are very consistent so they didn't "need" her.
Having her does elevate the music another notch.
