Talons the only reason I've heard Momentary Lapse and not their other classics is that it was one of the only Floyd albums in my dad's collection.

But yeah someday I'll check their other popular stuff but it's not really that high on my list of priorities

It's funny because Animals and The Wall are both brilliant albums but the songwriting and creative decision gradually shifted to Waters more and more after this, and The Final Cut is essentially a solo album by him, then everything Floyd made afterwards were like Gilmour solo albums because he then controlled everything. Piper was all written by Syd Barret, so in a way there's only like 6 or 7 of their albums that are actual collaborative, band efforts not spearheaded by one of them or made for soundtracking a film.

Animals should absolutely be a priority for you Boney lol

From what I've heard the only ones I particularly like are this and Dsotm. The Wall is pretty meh imo.
But yeah Animals does seem pretty essential, I'm a bit concerned though because it seems like their most "proggy" album
|
| |
Most proggy?
I don't really get that vibe honestly, I mean it has a lot of memorable unique moments but it's not very pretentious. It's very rocky and has a lot of political lyricism to it. I think their most overblown is definitely The Wall, most proggy is hard to pin point for me

Floyd never seemed like a prog rock band to me. Maybe they are in an abstract sense, but most of their music is art rock and/or psychedelic imo, including Animals, despite how long the songs are on that one.
The Wall is pretty divisive and has some filler, but it's still brilliant and contains a few of their best songs. It's like The Beatles' White Album in that way.

I mean like if we're talking about Prog on paper I can see what you mean, Animals has three very long songs that take center stage and a very fixed political concept, but I think sound-wise it's the most straightforward even with it's complexities.
That's part of it's charm honestly. It's the most straightforward of their big 4 imo

Proggy in the sense that it has massive songs and the whole political concept seems pretentious.
But yeah I agree talons, they don't really seem like prog, their whole thing is far too tasteful for that. I would definitely call what I've heard from them more art rock than prog.
The Wall I just could never get into, it's a mess. There are only a few good songs on it (though the good songs are amazing) but the concept doesn't work at all and it's way too long for it's own good.

Animals isn't pretentious at all. It's rather dark and even a somewhat humbling listen

Honestly there's nothing more of a turnoff to my wanting to listen to something than people telling me to listen to it tbh

Oh it is? I wasn't aware.
What I really mean though is when I get gangbanged by people telling me something is essential and that's been happening a lot recently for some reason
Idk it just gets kind of annoying
