Actually, scrap that Aunt Lisa is the worst thing this band has ever done.

I knew their was a reason to skip this album.
Saw them perform a bunch of songs of this and they we're as boring as sawdust. Went home thinking, "I probably missed something", gave this a few go's and nope I was wrong.

CTS will remain my favourite but I have serious respect for The Hunter being your favourite Hawks.

It's easily the catchiest album imo. Obviously not as sludgy as some of the earlier albums, but it's just so damn fun.

Needs more...oomph. The songs are predictable (v/c/v/c/b/c) and generally underwhelming. Its production values loudness over dynamics (pop radio mixing, thank you Mike Elizondo of Dr. Dre fame; I'm sure it sounds great on Beats!). The Hunter is just too typically accessible, and I use that term at the rink of being called a hipster or whatever, but it's true. It sounds designed for mass-production like a movie with lots of explosions and an easily-digestable plot that will be forgotten among the other summer blockbusters. Mastodon was easily my favorite band up through Crack the Skye, but The Hunter really blunted them for me. Blunt is actually a pretty good word for the overall sound of The Hunter. I love storytelling through music, and after three concept albums that I loved getting lost in like a great book, it seemed like a collection of incoherent singles aimed at reaching the top 10, which it did. Which is great if you enjoy paying $150 to meet your favorite band and fighting 2,500 other people for a front-row view. Just everything about post-2010 Mastodon is less awesome than the one I fell in love with back in 2006.

I can def see where you're coming from with that bro. It's def a very accessible "commercial" type album, but idk the album just has a certain energy about it they really drew me in.
I heard some Mastodon songs here and there, but it wasn't until I jammed The Hunter as my first full Mastodon album that I really began to appreciate them and now I dig all their stuff.
