The main riff in Parasite Blues is juicy

What I should have said is, "There are not nearly 90 minutes worth of interesting ideas here imo"

About 80 out of those 90 minutes are prime material
Hence my 4.5

This is randomly one of the only double albums I can sit through. Never would have expected soilwork of all bands to put out this much quality material.

I was sifting through some of the mainstream metal publications decade lists and was surprised to see this rarely made it. Seems like the kind of thing those fanbases would love.

This might have missed mine too just because I forgot. So much to consider!

For a double album, I can rarely recall a time I ever skipped around on this at all.

It’ll definitely make my list somewhere, when I get around to it. It helps that I don’t feel like they had much competition in the space, there weren’t really any other bands that I’ve heard executing this accessible 2000s style well in the 2010s. Plus they updated their sound enough to keep it fresh relative to the back catalog, in the riffing style, the key choices, the melodic phrasing, the drumming, the production. All-around great effort.

Couldn't agree more. I think it really balances what they stood for while not using it as a crutch necessarily.

Yeah, this is a classic Melodeath album in my opinion, mostly because it has WAY too much material for it to be good, but they still pulled it off, out of nothing it seemed.

The one downside of the tracklisting is that Spectrum of Eternity is basically perfect and they never quite come close to it again, but yeah, the worst songs here are still solid

I wish they had stuck with this sound after TRM, the newest one was quite a disappointment. But I guess after 3 discs of this type of material maybe they were out of fresh ideas in this vein. This has to be one of the best and most unexpected career revivals by a band though. They had been mediocre to bad for like 10 years before this
