Personally, I don't think that after becoming millionaires they had much to thrash about.
I love Load. Hard. Its my 2nd favorite Metallica album. I don't care. The high points are so high and Hetfield was on top of his game.

The highs are so much lower than the first albums lows... lol
It's crap.
@JeffRules: indeed, that's not what happened. What happened is these guys never had any clue how to make good songs. They just happened to be in a band with Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton. I know tons of local guys that can play the drums better than Ulrich. And Hetfield is nothing special on guitar and not a very good singer.
Still, they did alright until this album, imo (even though i really dislike AJFA).
@Maco: Stop trolling. Megadeth might have had some ups and downs but they never went as low as Metallica (Load/Reload/StAnger/Lulu...what an awful streak lol). And they're still thrashing.

I'd take Megadeth over Metallica every day of the week.......ESPECIALLY the discographies as a whole

^ Same here. I also like Megadeth's classics more than Metallica's...but there's no denying that Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are classics, though.
And i really don't like Metallica's attitude. They just want $$$. Check the ridiculous prices for their concerts. It's been going on for years(decades?). With the "quality" of their music in the past 15 years, it's no wonder i haven't (and never will) seen them live.
Oh and they don't go in fests. The popularity they gained with the black album really went to their heads. Some bands live for the concerts, the tours...and others just want money.

Love Megadeth and their discography is better overall, but 80's Metallica is a different story.
Here's the thing Faenrir, they didn't have to be virtuosos; they knew how to write music. Could you find better players? Probably, there always will be, but I doubt they could have done what Metallica did. Outside of the politics, money, and the fame of Metallica.. they were once a young talented band that made classic records and history can't be denied.
Now, as far as where their passion lays anymore I have no idea. I saw them live 20 years ago, and I saw them a couple time in the 2000's and they still put a show on.
In the mid 90's I couldn't defend my favorite band anymore, doesn't feel good, but I won't deny that they weren't once a great band. Sometimes I pretend these records... don't even exist! lol

So, in general which are the best picks from this album that everyone seems to enjoy? As much as I love Metallica I never listened to this in its entirety.

I want to rate this a three bitter relationship, but I do like some songs on here, but man I can't get past all of it. The sad thing is it's probably better than their last two albums (at least the good songs defeintly are)

I'm one of those people who wish they kept going in the direction of old Metallica before they became more of a business than a band.
If Cliff didn't die and Lars was fired, they'd be one of my favorite bands of all time. Sigh.
