Some nights is so screamingly head-explodingly 2012 idk I kinda can't hate it even though there's a lot to hate

Such an amazing album. Is there anything else kinda like this or with similar vibes or anything? I’m sure there has to be, i just don’t know 🤷

'My naive 2009 self declared fun. to be the new Queen'
pretty accurate comparison imo

If you like quirky catchy baroque pop rock then Jellyfish is mandatory MANDATORY
|

Gonna have to take a look at The Format. I always really liked the song “She Doesn’t Get It” but never listened to anything else for whatever reason
I’m on that Jellyfish like I’m SpongeRobert SquarePants
Thanks, guys!

“Gonna have to take a look at The Format. I always really liked the song “She Doesn’t Get It” but never listened to anything else for whatever reason”
dude, if you like this album and like She Doesn’t Get It, you are gonna loooove Dog Problems (the album SDGI is off of). IMO that album has way more in common with this than Some Nights does.
“If you like quirky catchy baroque pop rock then Jellyfish is mandatory MANDATORY”
facts, Fun. led me to Jellyfish many moons ago, Spilt Milk has songs that are better than most of Fun. tbh, other than a few cuts like Be Calm that take the cake

gotta insert my mandatory “I played fantasy baseball with fun’s touring drummer, and won the league, of course 😎”
apparently he was in line to join the band permanently but Nate Reuss said no because “the band didn’t need a drummer” fuckin asswipe, my theory is he’s too good looking and Nate was intimidated

lol I know it to be true personally, hearing it from someone who literally played in the band for 3 years pretty much certifies it
|
| |
what fucking band doesn’t need a drummer

The Queen of our era never really got the same fanfare, did it?
Still love this band. They helped lift me up through some very difficult times.

Album is an all timer.
The thought I just had about "Barlights" being Choogie "don't stop till you get enough" though.

This came out before they got super famous, and I remember thinking to myself at the time that they had the potential to take off. Of course, they did that and then some more. Shame they ended so quickly though -- I suppose the brightest stars really do burn the fastest.

Funny that Jack Antonoff is one of the most important people in pop music since Some Nights dropped (but arguably not a good thing).
