it does have the familiar symptoms of a kattun fail. This Message Edited On 01.29.09

The Lotus Eater rules, especially the beginning (quick switching from harsh to clean vocals) and 5:48-6:23. I love that interlude.

"Coil is so awesome. Opeth is the only band that can make a 3 minute song sound so epic."

Nah, they can't do it with a minute and half song (Patterns in the Ivy is not epic at all)

how are you gonna diss on the end of Burden? figures only in this day and age would someone playing something nice on the guitar be taken as atrocious. Give me a break

This is a great album.
Heir Apparent is my favorite track by them right now.

Took me a while to get into this, which is weird in that I like prog rock and prog metal.

Burden is my favorite track on the album, but I have mixed feelings on the ending. It would have sounded better if he kept the riff without detuning the guitar and faded out.

idk, Burden is my favorite track as well, but I think the ending is fun. such a seemingly serious prog-epic and then it ends with something like that - pretty much what Opeth stand for imo, not taking their music even half as serious as all the limited capabilities fanboys.

I never listen to the ending. At least it's not as bad as the ending during Deliverance.
