People who never heard this and would attempt to should be directed to the dvd documentary instead. The album makes so much more sense this way and it saves them from hearing the whole album. Tho...the dvd is some kind of tortuous too....

this album is fucking sick and the collective unconscious meme documentary that everybody won't stop shilling to me probably sucks

i reject all other sentiments because i am right

Yeah it’s actually pretty good. Some stinky songs but once you get used to the snare you can learn to appreciate the album

The 2.5 is from a little while ago, I’d rate it a touch higher now

The documentary absolutely sucks. Its half or more just lars and james and bob rock arguing and james getting rehab

i really love the sound of the drums and the way the guitar is produced, it's very obviously deliberate and creates a unique atmosphere like no other that i think works 100% in its favor

not everything has to have exactly the same production to be part of a band's canon - i used to make that mistake

when you drop all memes and pretense this is probably the single best example of a thrash band going groove

Some Kind of Monster is comedy gold. Lars is an absolute menace throughout the entire run time

I vaguely remember Lars being pissed and gaslighting James for going to rehab but i could be making that up. I mostly just remember how angry Lars is.

He was pissed because as part of his recovery, James would only record for like 3 hours and then would spend the rest of his time with his family or in sessions and since they were constantly arguing anyway, it felt like they were only doing half an hour of actual work before things broke down or James would leave anyway so he was questioning why it had to be ‘me first, Metallica second’ when he could easily balance it like the rest of the group were doing. Bit of a shit mindset but he had his reasons I suppose
