Same, a friend of mine was like, you gotta check out this album Unhallowed, and at first I was like, yeah this is pretty decent melodic death metal, not too bad. But the more I listened to it, the more I fell in love with songs like the Blackest Incarnation, Funeral Thirst, and Apex. There was something about them even in just their early debut between the riffs and the vocals that just elevated them to a higher level, especially in terms of songwriting and lyrics. They played a show in my friends basement in Richmond when they had just released Miasma. After the house show all of the members partied with us at a neighbors house, and the most I said to them was "what's up" cause I didn't want to be an annoying fanboy. Crazy memory from like 18 years ago.

"where were you all when you first heard this?"
was already a pretty big fan by the time this dropped. the first single they dropped was "What A Horrible Night To Have A Curse" and i knew right there that the album was gonna be special. my buddy and i each bought a copy at this local record story Easy Street and jammed to the CD on the drive home.

They were too dark for me when i first heard them lol. I was still listening to As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, etc. Even though they're melodeath, they still manage to sound dark and evil and i wasnt ready for it yet.

Heard what a horrible night to have a curse on Guitar Hero at a young age and though I liked the song wasn't into music that heavy at the time, as I got older I found a liking to the heavier side of metal and gave Nocturnal a shot... never looked back as they became my favorite Melodic DM band. Sad to know that we will never get anything new from this band (unless they make a silly decision and get a new singer)

Who knows. Brian has been doing this for so long and has worked so hard to get where they are, i could understand if he doesnt want to hang it up.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing them keep going with a new front man. Trevor was very distinct and it will be very difficult to find someone to fit the bill but as Death mentioned it wouldn't be too crazy for Brian to want to keep going. Didn't know Trevor personally either but I feel like he wouldn't want them to hang it up either

This is the most black metal these guys got. Mostly due to the excursions into traditional bm tremolo melodies. It touches on Dissection vibes at times. RIP, binged their discog over the past week or so, Trevor seems to have been a great dude

This incarnation of their sound just hits harder for me and that's probably why. Unhallowed is probably my #2 as well due to the atmosphere but this riffs haaaaaaard... some of the catchiest in all of metal for me, thoroughly entertaining. I really dig the overall aesthetic in comparison to a lot of other melodeath.
I didn't even realise these guys were a gateway band of sorts and don't have any sort of nostalgic emotional connection (having discovered them later in life). Commiserations to those of you feeling the loss. RIP.

Parchments scabbed over with plasmatic prose!
prophesize permanent night!
The words of sheer blackness paint ebony my soul
and bestow me with infernal might!!!!
Think those are my favorite Trevor lines. Dude had a way with the words for sure
