that being said, i will pretty much always consider them much more of a 2000s band than a '90s one. Pablo had a few good tracks but was mostly hugely misrepresentative of the group they'd become. Bends was good and has a lot of GREAT b-sides but is generally lower on the totem pole when their whole catalog is being assessed. OKC is of course fantastic but as much as it really brought their "rock" side to fruition it also acted in a big way as a precursor to the next like 5 albums they'd make, even if those pulled a lot more from the electronic side of things than this one did.
so yeah, '00s band that put out their best record in '97

You won't find a better hooky alt rock album than The Bends though. It always gets unfairly overshadowed.

If you find anyone that prefers The Bends to this or (especially) Kid A, congrats, you’ve found yourself someone who’s musically illiterate.

The Bends is perfect in its own way, leave it alone

It’s usually the reasoning that goes with it... ‘oh no experimentation and/or electronica hurts my fragile ears’. They’re the type that usually likes this, because every f***er does, but Kid A is unlistenable to them.

@Log S: Or maybe they can be both a 90s band and a 00s band, and a 10s band for that matter. They’ve been consistently putting out quality material and have informed and had influence on all those decades so it doesn’t seem right to limit them to being a “00s band”.

Sorry guys, I’m just irked by ‘normies’ sometimes.

@demon, Planet Telex?
also those people you call musically illiterate exist. There's nothing wrong with quality songwriting, especially considering their contemporaries at the time (Oasis, blur, etc.).

opinions???

I'd take The Bends over any blur, oasis, coldplay, or muse album easily. I like this, kid a, and in rainbows more than bends though.

Yeah but the people that prefer The Bends often veer towards that sector of artists in my experience, that’s my issue. Here, or especially with Kid A Radiohead experimented/evolved and moved even further away from what was deemed palatable by the masses. You either embaraced it, or were doomed to forever stay a pleb (exaggerating/joking a little here).

I agree mostly, but I'm just defending the bends because I find it to be a really quality album. Morning glory can take a hike compared to it.
