The flow from track to track here is out of this world. I've known Reign in Blood for several years, but hadn't gone any further with Slayer until now - and in all honesty, as awesome as that album is, I think I might prefer this.

Reign In Blood is the more "well-known" classic but I'd say this album is better, even if it is only by a margin.

for sure man, they kill those slow groovey riffs. it’s kind of a shame reign in blood (which is an all timer) overshadows their mostly really solid discog

Angel of Death and Postmortem/Raining Blood are the cream of the crop - those three tracks are what makes it classic methinks.

I've got a major soft spot for "Altar of Sacrifice" into "Jesus Saves" personally

Both good tracks - Piece By Piece is quite possibly the weakest link. That or Epidemic.

Listening to this and Reign in Blood back to back yesterday only made me more confident in preferring this. More varied, more developed, and somehow more consistent. They might as well have split the whole thing into only two tracks, what with how well each block of five holds together as a cohesive unit.

As for "weak" tracks on RiB... "Piece by Piece", "Reborn", and "Epidemic" are probably the floor for me, though all three tracks are still great and I love how the last two pair together.

Looking very forward to trying South of Heaven now.

you will love it then. i think i prefer it just by a touch to this. super close though, very comparable albums. mandatory suicide is top 5 slayer.
