I notice older releases get higher ratings far more frequently than newer releases. 1960’s-1990’s had a shit ton of albums rated 4.3 and above in contrast to the more recent decades. I prefer the older releases too but I can’t help but see some collective bias here

I find the more melodic styles of death metal bands produce more memorable tracks, whereas the dissonant styles are more impressive technically but not necessarily as easy to remember particular songs - I love all styles of metal but I find the more dissonant bands take a lot more concentration and effort to listen to and appreciate.
