Meshuggah and Corona rhyme and have the same number of syllables. Coincidence?

If you like to count measures while you listen to music (and if you're capable of it, which is far from evident with Meshuggah), you might find something interesting happening through this album. But other than rhythmic complexity, there's absolutely nothing in this music. With the exception of those amazing jazz-metal guitar solos (that I really enjoy), I'm pretty sure that these guys don't use more than 5 different notes per song! Don't go searching for melodies or memorable riffs, there aren't any. Rarely has the tag math-metal been more accurate. This band is all about counting and nothing else.

Here Meshuggah shows us that even if being a one-trick pony band can last you for a few good albums (Nothing, Catch Thirtythree), eventually you're going to hit a point where there's nothing left in the bag and you're simply rehashing the same tired crap over and over again. While most Meshuggah songs in general are just banging out one note in an "unusual" time signature and/or rhythm, here there's no life left in the band and nothing making them remotely interesting. It's repetitive and ugly, and not in a good way like Catch Thirtythree was—that album had a sense of purpose and drive to it. Here it's more like they couldn't think of anything to do.

It's real good. Maybe it'll grow back up for me but thats where I'm at now.

Honestly enjoy everything else they've done besides the debut on varying levels much more than this
