Call me crazy but the cleans in the new Failure's album, Wild Type Droid, remind me a lot of Mastodon's cleans. That album is growing on me very fast btw, it may even top this one at this pace...

I still haven't made my mind on this album. There's certain things to enjoy and other things that just rub me the wrong way. In theory, i like the evolution of their sound and the fact that they borrow all these ideas from different styles. I just don't know if i'm in love with certain ideas in the arrangement departement.

I feel like Mastodon is transitioning from a sludge/progressive metal band into a psychedelic metal band and I don't hate it... but I do miss their old rippers like "Hunters in the Sky" and "Where Strides the Behemoth"

Apparently it's a double album that wasn't separate releases. I would have liked to have seen it be split for easier listening.

When they first started writing this they said they had enough material for a thrash album and a doom album. Pushing and Savage seem to be the ones that made it from the thrash but the majority seem to be more doom-y. I still enjoy the album but I feel like some of the songs could have benefitted from bumping up the tempo slightly.

Savage Lands is banging but did Lars Ulrich lend his snare on this one
