yeah im not quite sure why but this has way more charm and intrigue than debut. I've already listened to it more times than the first

Idk if I agree with that but it's definitely more immediate that the first. But listening to that first album and slowly falling in love with it will always be one of my favorite experiences with music

the chorus to "kyoto" follows the letter of triumph (trumpets!) and the spirit of melancholy (the chords!). maybe. pretty good song

I listened to this album 3 times yesterday
This album has so much personality, it started pretty low for me but now it's hard to think of anything from 2020 that's better (maybe Honey Harper)

After deliberating for the last, maybe, two weeks or so, I have finally decided that I like this more than Stranger in the Alps (which I think is mostly great). Less vocal range, it would seem, but this is more sonically interesting imo. She has matured quite a bit as a songwriter and you can definitely tell.

Agreed. This was an initial disappointment for me, starting around a 3.5-4.0 vs. Stranger in the Alps' 4.5-5.0. It grew very slowly over the course of a couple weeks. Then, it's almost as if I needed to not hear it for a while in order for it to complete its transformation into AOTY contender. I didn't really listen to it much at all for 3-4 weeks, revisited it this week, and now it sounds even better.

Yeah, I went hard on this the first three or four days after its release. Loved it but still (at the time) would've said 'Stranger' was my preferred Bridgers album. Almost burnt myself out on it right away. Stuck hard with a couple songs (Garden Song, Kyoto, Chinese Satellite, I Know the End) and felt ambivalent toward the rest. Went over a week without really listening to it much and suddenly found myself humming the likes of Halloween and ICU, etc... It's like the songs that didn't really catch me at first were just lingering in the back and strangely came to the forefront after having not heard the album for a week. Have been listening to it over the past week or so and gave it the bump to 4.0, now in my Top 5 for the year (so far). Really great stuff.
