two songs in, and I guess I just don't like Tool. @Pikazilla okay that might be it, the songs are boring af

I can see how people who want a single to grab onto like Schism, Vicarious or Jambi wouldn't like this, but it really delivers as a singular listening experience in repeat listens. It really is immaculately crafted and labored over, that much you can tell, and the lack of immediacy can occasionally hurt, but 7empest really makes up for a lot of that.

So true. I don't get the criticisms about a lack of amazing moments or epic climaxes. Some of my favorite moments on the album each happen in the last few minutes of most of the songs.

Lamenting the lack of hit is very funny, though.

Where's the damn hook on this thing?

I think a good bong rip could aid the listening experience for such critics. If I never listened to sleep, om, yob, pallbearer, etc. I would be totally alienated by this gem. A lot of listeners are fixated on differences, namely length and vocals and an occasional Justin critique..but it truly comes together perfectly. Take a rip!

The better question is, where's the good songwriting on this damn thing? Album be meandering all over the place without actually doing anything interesting.

Jones be like, "Yo, can I just string some random riffs together and you guys do whatever the fuck you like because I can't be assed to do this thing anymore?"

And Carey be like, "Sure, bros, I gotcha back, I'll try and turn whatever garbage you come up with into something remotely enjoyable".

And then Keenan be like, "Send me over the recordings, I gotta put an Oreo ad in somewhere."

Your engagement to this is adorable, pika. You shame out most tool fans with that dedication.

This thread is missing input from Lucca.

I love that they had the only song on the album that's intense from the get go, with minimal build up, the climax of the album, makes it hit harder.

There's some things to criticize about this one's song-writing, but they definitely didn't "string some random riffs together".

No, they just repeat the same thing over and over on the first two tracks. Those two really make it hard to get into the record, I like the rest I'm hearing now a lot more

Haters and fuckers apart, I'm getting that Aenima big fans are underwhelmed by this, mainly because this album is everything but immediacy and its power. Lateralus big fans are absolutely at ease, overwhelmed, delighted and pleased.

Talk less and listen more...and that's something I've been able to do while this site was down...which is something I don't want to happen again...but I sometimes need to shut this off to properly go around things.

EDIT: I'm sure that some Lateralus fan will come and say "yeaaah...I love Lateralus and I don't like this one" but yk...there's all kinds of dudes and egos out there.

I’m not sure what a hot take for Tool would be, they have lovers and haters of equal vitriol

Listening to an album one time, not remembering what it sounds like and commenting 100 times anyway without anything to add except that people who like it are idiots is not a hot take. It's a shit take.

'the idea is to listen to the record in its entirety with your complete attention.'

Thanks, I'd never thought of that until now. It's like an entirely new way of digesting music.

I think Maynard fucked Pika, never called him back and wrote 4 Degrees about him.
