Well, yes, that's sorta the gist. Not necessarily 'meaningless', but just that the meaning is "this is what this piece of music makes that person feel". Cliché but true, to a not-inconsequential degree we are just laying out our subjective take on how we personally think something sounds (obviously there is often a little more to it).
I am saying that I get it - I love old ass whiny country music and it is understandable for someone to have an uncontrollable dislike for it because [insert facet of the music that is not enjoyable to listener - it's corny, it's whiny, it's etc. etc. etc.]. It clicks for me, much like this record clicks for many and I have an uncontrollable dislike for it (because of the aforementioned vocal delivery that I find to not come across as interesting and vulnerable in a way that overcomes the detracting things about it).
Will spin a Microphones, record, though, if it is to be rec'd. I can let you know what I think!

Funnily enough, there is a perfect analog for me on the total other side of the demeanor-spectrum: Kimya Dawson. Whatever endearing quirk or conversational-nature of her vocal delivery just never can overcome the unrelenting physical shuddering sensation that hearing it makes me feel.
