Album is desperately teetering on a 5, but the title track and No Shade just don't cut it, even though I jam this thing practically every day.

I agree. I don't see what's so divisive about it.

The "We're all gonna die" line is so simple yet so powerful, one of the most memorable ones on the album.

Well to each their own, I guess. While it's a simple line, I think it works well as a realization on Sufjan's part (assuming the song is autobiographical, which I'm pretty sure the whole album is), considering the topic of the rest of the song. It's something we all know, but to embrace it and truly comprehend it is hard, and I feel like with that line that's what he's trying to do.

I get exactly what he's trying to do, but damn it feels so cheap.

If that song feels cheap you should check your pulse because you might not have one

I don't know man. I prefer esoteric and generally less forward feels.

Ya know. Like that's just me. I'm not faulting anyone that doesn't. But I dunno. Maybe I put it a little more bluntly than I could have. BUT that's just how that song feels to me. It's so... blunt. Like I feel things. YOU should feel them too. Don't think for a second that music doesn't make me feel, Mr. Sowing. I feel things (especially art) very deeply. To the point, where it has fucked up many a life plan. I just want these things to creep in on me unexpectedly. This album. Everything about it screams FEEL SAD. Ya know? Maybe you don't. I just want things I don't expect. Those are the things that get to me. Whatever. I've probably had too many drinks to Sputnik right now. And I know your comment was harmless jest, but to suggest someone as emotionally spastic as me is emotionally dead? Nah. I'm not with it. Damn. Lots of words here. Sorry.
