Some scholars have opted to analyze Ne Obliviscaris' song structure through the post-structuralist theories of Michel Foucault, claiming the labyrinthine song passages are result of a sort of panoptic few-and-many power dialect through surveillance. The progressive metal subgenre's ideological episteme that bands like NeO are confined to is the result of the ever-vigilant prog fanbase and their efforts to contain and police the borders of what is considered "prog" and what isn't.
