The more emo/pop-punk parts of this sound like Home, Like NoPlace Is There to me. Haven't check Hot Water Music or Alkaline Trio yet, so can't really agree or disagree with your comparison.

I think they have a pretty different feel to their music, I've always argued Hotelier have more in common with 90s emo than pop punk when you really get down to tone and how the music makes you feel and also the kind of chords the band uses, Captain, We're Sinking use a lot of interesting chords, not really chords rooted much in either genre tbh, man they just have amazing guitarists

That's kinda the struggle I've had with trying to find something else that sounds like this. The guitar playing is way too good in comparison to most punk.
