Making my way further into Fantasy and it's not losing any luster. Pretty hyped about it. Seems to be their best in quite some time. Still have more than half the album to go though lol

Yeah, I revisited Hurry Up, We're Dreaming yesterday for the first time in years and it sounded nowhere near as good as I remember it being. Listening to Fantasy right now it and sounds notably better than this, although I'm only halfway through and I may've just been in a bad mood for M83 yesterday.

This album was their mainstream breakthrough so there's understandably a lot of sentimental attachment for a lot of people, but I agree it's not their best. Saturdays=Youth probably holds that spot for me personally.

Saturdays=Youth is incredible, he will never make anything that good again by a long shot. Before the dawn and Dead Cities are 10/10 too but I feel as if it all came to a head with Saturdays, everything else since is just more and more aimless

Saying anything but this or maaaaaaaybe Dead Cities is their best kinda feels like overthinking it IMO

How often do you get the two for one of "mainstream breakthrough with perfect pop songs" AND "sprawling double album"?

rarely enough that the two together are a guaranteed oversell, which is right on for this
|

Yeah obv there's no denying you can beef about whether they pull it off (I mean, this wasn't really critically beloved outside of P4k at the time of release). But at the very least it's the biggest swing from a band whose entire MO is big swings

Seems like this was lightning in a bottle

This is the only M83 album that really grips me, though I get not at all liking it.
