Guess I've found a strong contender for next album I spin on a road trip, then. Would love to be out on the road for the whole duration of this monolith.

I'm tempted to whip out a 4.5 for this even though I'm not sure if any individual EP rates on that level for me - for an album to hold its own for over two hours without dragging is one hell of a feat.

Album is a huge throwback to a time when I was really just starting to go on actual "dates" with my wife after years of flirtatious behavior and "friendship", and I used to live about 90 mins away from her and I'd jam this album both ways to and from her house. It never got old. I'd play Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green on the way up in daylight and Blue, Indigo, Violet, White on the way home at like 2am or later.

Thank you for sharing that, Sowing - a good love story always warms the heart :')

A question: what are y'all's favorite tracks from each EP? Here are my preliminary thoughts:

Black: too close to call between "Firth and Squalor" and "Take More Than You Need"

Red: "A Curse of Cynicism" (favorite song from the whole thing)

Orange: "But There's Wolves?"

Yellow: "She's Always Singing"

Green: "Crow and Cackle"

Blue: "The Collapse of the Great Tide Cliffs"

Indigo: "Mandala" (2nd favorite track overall)

Violet: "Lillian"

White: "Lost but Not All Gone"

I'm still fresh on this admittedly so it is a very hard call right now! but I'm still trying to comprehend that there is not a single song on this whole Compilation that I dislike and/or would skip, ugh this band is just too good!

I can rank the Colors though

Violet>Red>White>Black>Indigo>Blue>Yellow>Orange>Green

Black - Take More Than You Need
Red - Deny It All
Orange - But There's Wolves?
Yellow - She's Always Singing
Green - The Canopy
Blue - The Collapse of the Great Tide Cliffs
Indigo - Progress (god tier song)
Violet - Lillian
White - Lost But Not All Gone (hardest pick)

My favorite 9 unranked would be Progress, Mandala, What Time Taught Us, Home, No God, Lost But Not All Gone, She's Always Singing, The Canopy, and Lillian

Indigo > White > Violet ≥ Yellow > Green > Blue > Red > Orange > Black

Not sure how I'd rank the EPs yet, all I know is that Black and Indigo are my top 2 with Yellow possibly rounding out my top 3

4.5 for now, def not ruling out a 5 down the line. Probably my favorite discovery in at least 6 months.

I finally bit the bullet and sat through all of this in one listen. Kind of ashamed it took me this long, as The Dear Hunter are one of my favorite bands.
And, of course, it blew me away. The pure consistency across this thing is insane, as well as the fact that he can do consistently switch up styles while still undeniably being The Dear Hunter

Gonna go through these guys discog when I’m done with Jimmy Eat World. Excited. It’s a pretty extensive discog.

You have no idea what you're missing though neek. Give act IV or V a listen for me if you will. They are quite a different beast if you ask me and the quality is through the roof on those two.

Every EP is gorgeous in its own way. Can't believe I initially reviewed this at a 4.

Yeah this album is like no other. Hits me hard every time I listen to it for nostalgia and just because it's so good.
