this was legitimately my first favorite album. strange place to start. but still a good album honestly, if you can get past the fact it was written by fun.

Apparently the Format has been touring around a little bit again which is pretty neat... they were the precursor to this band, Nate Reuss and Sam Means.

That's good to hear, Nate seems like a cool dude and it kinda seemed like he was ready to give up the music thing altogether after his solo record flopped

That’s because his solo record was trash

I only heard like half of it but I thought it mostly sounded fine, if kind of uninteresting

They've never officially broken up, so maybe there's hope for an album some time in the future? I doubt it, though.

The gist seems to be that Nate was/is kind of a douchebag and felt like he should have been getting 100% of the spotlight instead of 99% of it. He went solo and the other guys (including Antonoff) did their own thing, and that's when the disparity in songwriting skill became obvious. All the hooks on this album and Some Nights were because Jack can write songs, whereas Nate can just sing well and that's it - hence why his solo LP was a total flop. I would also love to see a reunion some day, but I feel like Nate will have to cede half of the spotlight to Jack Antonoff, who has become huge in his own right. And that's assuming Jack wants any part of Fun. these days, considering he's quite possibly the most in-demand producer in all of pop music.

Never listened this one, but absolutely hated Some Nights. Dunno how different this one is.

Basically a different band here than on Some Nights. Some Nights deserves some vitriol lol, but I don’t think it’s horrible. Apparently Nate Reuss said he was inspired by Kanye on that album 😂
