I think Tipton's better from a technique standpoint, but I enjoy KK's rawer style

To each their own dude. I value tone quite a bit actually, it's one of the main things I look for in a lead player.

Yeah, I'm more about style than tone, but I do know that tone is important. One of my favorite things about Nattens Madrigal, for instance, is how piercing and raw the tone is when set against the poor production

Interesting. Yeah, guitar discussions are pretty cool.

Tbh I don't think I have the single fave lead player atm.

Put Steve Hackett and of course Gilmour and Frip in the mix and you have the five best guitarists in prog.

Imo:

Gilmour
Latimer
Lifeson
Hackett
Fripp

But each has his case going.

If I ranked my fav guitarists only two of them would be prog guitarists (Gilmour and Fripp)

Howe and Lifeson rule too

I was only ranking those 5 dudes man. Hackett isn't higher for me because, while he is indeed underrated, I tend to lean more toward tonal guitarists, and Hackett had more of a neoclassical vibe imo. And I'm not huge on Fripp. The rest make my Top 10 hard.

Plus, I have to make room for guitarists from other walks of rawk.

Hackett
Latimer
Gilmour

Best guitarists in prog by quite some distance.

Probably the only prog guitarists that would make my top 20.

Lifeson is def my fave prog guitarist, because he can rock too.
