Like it or not, In Flames were highly influential and they deserve the praise they got.
Now, if we're talking overall legacy, well... one band has remained remarkably consistent while one has seemingly crusaded against and shredded whatever reputation they had left.

"Like it or not, In Flames were highly influential and they deserve the praise they got."
No, they didn't and their music was just as vapid in the '90s as it would be in the following decades.

Understood, everyone was wrong for the critical praise they got. Currently going back in time to redo this most grievous error.

Pretty much, yeah.

Nah I won't get into it. Guy is clearly as arrogant as humanly possible when it comes to In Flames. Like, there are bands I dislike but at least respect their influence. To dismiss their 90s output like it didn't matter is laughable but there's no point debating it when someone is so dug into their trench.

Their '90s input is easy to dismiss because they were clearly inferior to many of their peers both in Gothenburg and in metal as whole. Calling albums like The Jester Race "good' is an insult to the notable material that actually did come out that decade.

Like I said, not worth the time. If that's what you firmly believe then sure.

don't see how u can have this 5'd but can't see any redeeming qualities in The Jester Race unless ur really entrenched in being edgy
|

To be fair, this and The Jester Race dont have much in common

I've heard Cenotaph before. Album is solid, didn't think it was anything too special but others may feel differently. Think I should rejam tbh. Their debut slays hard though, The Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows or some shit. Anyone who likes osdm should check that for sure.
And yeah The Chasm rules, never thought of them as melodeath tbh but they can def be pretty melodic at times so I can kinda see it. I gotta jam their first couple albums though, I've only heard Deathcult onwards.
Edit: My comment seems crazy out of place LOL, guess I was looking at the last page. Oh well haha

Better vocals, superior musicianship, better instrumentation, better riffs, melodies that actually develop, etc.
