All things must pass is a triple-album right?

some would classify it as triple but George was fairly clear that the third disc of jamming is a true bonus disc and the actual album is the stuff up to Hear Me Lord

"One of those "okay this band is ridiculously talented but still trying to bite off a smidge more than they can chew" dealies"
This is why concept albums and double albums are both uncool
What double albums do NOT sound like biting off more than they can chew tbh? Leaves? Embryonic? Physical Graffiti?

Embryonic has problems but imo the band biting off more than they can chew ain't one of em

haha yeah, this popped into my head as soon as I'd posted that comment. funky album
always forget that London Calling is a double album - feels and works more like a longass single disc and is maybe the better for it
also Lift Yr Skinny Fists ofc

I think the thing is that double or concept albums are, for obvious reasons more difficult to make. You need to make double the amount of music and, in the case of concept albums you even have to tie all of the songs together. There's a need for consistency and cohesion, so that's why many double albums fail

But there are also plenty of great double albums, it's just that the concept is more difficult to pull out, but nowhere near close to being impossible

and yes, Skinny Fists ofc

Physical Graffiti is the most overrated double. Having said that I never used to like London Calling so make of that what you will

Physical Graffiti is prob more inconsistent than I remember it being but it also has something like 80% of the LZ tracks I actually like so I am obligated to defend it at least a little
