I'm tired of these shows always being looking back.

For someone who is creatively tapped with their output, sure, it makes a ton of sense to do a career achievement thing. I wouldn't want Usher or JLo/Shakira keeping things current. But if some is still hot and in particular just experienced one of the most electrifying cultural moments in recent memory, then I'm glad they don't rest on their laurels.

If he would've played Money Trees or Backseat Freestyle or King Kunta, then yeah I'd do the Dicaprio gif point at my screen and it would've been cool. But this is so much more refreshing than just rehashing the hits

i mean like 10 pages ago i pretty much predicted the exact set he played ( -alright, +dna). it wasn't exactly shocking as someone who saw him play 18 mr morale songs vs 7 gkmc+tpab songs on his last tour.

if the set was squabble up / humble / luther / all the stars / not like us / tv off nobody would be taking issue. its the fact that he completely overstuffed it and still didn't throw older fans a bone that makes if feel egregious.

The whole show was kendricks, he did what he wanted given the setting and I can appreciate the visual spectacle of the performance. I really don't get the hate. He's so much bigger than a gkmc snippet.

Halftime show was bold and uncompromising and brilliant, people hating on it are being pretty silly

I think meshuggah would be the perfect metal band for the halftime show. Bleed can get the arena normies hyped

on the flipside, being perplexed that people are disappointed he didn't play any of his classics is also silly at best and outright glazing at worst. dude put on a great show full of songs i like but he isn't above criticism either.

"he's obviously using this to promote the gnx tour"

what a shortsighted, moneygrab move then tbh, no other artist uses the halftime show to promote specific tour or album. i dont think anybody is saying the set was bad for not including his older music, but it's not completely unexpected for long-term fans to be confused as to why he didnt include a single track from gkmc/tpab, his two most renowned albums.

i liked the set a lot but to say that including songs like DNA and peekaboo over songs like Alright and Money Trees/Swimming Pools is "bold and brilliant" is straight up glazing.

I mean Kendrick has always been pop adjacent and done stuff for the bag. He has songs w Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift lol. It's not as surprising as one would think. Sure it would've been nice to hear some classics but that's not really going to shift my opinion either way. Agree to disagree y'all I won't keep going!!!

Aren't most of these halftime shows medleys anyway? Like do a 5-song run singing 2 minutes of each song rather than an actual setlist? Plus this entire halftime show was a response to Lamar's massive popularity. Of course he's going to play the songs he's known for versus deep cuts or tracks from more than 2 or 3 years ago. I did not watch the halftime show.

You guys are looking at the songs instead of the performance as a whole. That's hater energy. If anything it showed how uncommercial Mr morale is.
