They were influenced by pere ubu on their debut. Pretty sure they referenced them.

This one is more Arcade Fire and Michael Nyman

perhaps, but this is not the debut

They were influenced by pere ubu on their debut.
I can see that a bit more. Especially in the slower and more sparse parts of "Athens" and "Science Fair," maybe even the final section of "Sunglasses".
They've largely abandoned that specific sound here. Or at least transformed it into something completely different.

"perhaps, but this is not the debut"
What's that suppose to mean

this is a departure in sound vs the debut, doesn't warrant any comparison to Pure Boo Boo
even if the reference point was once relevant, it no longer is

That's really dumb

Why is crescendocore a bad thing? Are we not building upon ideas and moving the song to a more formed direction these days?

listened to this in a good mood and hated it
listened to it in a bad mood and liked it
2.5 is fitting for now

"Why is crescendocore a bad thing?"
there is a difference between using a musical crescendo and playing the absolute most boring and formulaic post rock imaginable
|
| |
I misremembered how the Sput 'similar' artists worked, for some reason I thought it was specific to an album, not the entire artist. In that case it makes enough sense to have Pere Ubu as similar since influences are present in 50% of BN,NR's discography.
I was mostly using the term crescendocore flippantly as indeed many of the tracks here finish louder than they begin and sort of gradually arrive there. But there's a huge difference between the approach here and something like e.g. Explosions in the Sky, which is precisely the sort of boring cookie-cutter post-rock to which you're probably referring.

“Crescendocore” is great when the idea you’re building on is interesting. Which is probably why I find a song like Basketball Shoes far less engaging than something like Haldern.
That being said yeah i’m hard pressed to call many songs here “crescendocore.” Maybe Snow Globes is the closest thing

I have not listened to this but yea I'm pretty sure (or I hope) this isn't crescendocore that everyone is hyped about
