I guess I just appreciate their gentle atmospheric ebb and flow sound and the way Loic factors into it. In sequence, it's dreamlike.

I listened to the first single and it sounded like an intro track and I wasn't surprised to find out it was the first track, had no interest in hearing it again outside of the album.
Parabiosis is incredible and I listened to it like 80 times, one of my fav songs by them at this point but I tore myself away from listening to that too and am not touching anything else until the album drops, so I haven't heard Sea of Reeds or the one they just dropped either, also annoying that this is the second time they've dropped the final track as a single. Fuckin save your load boys.
If it's more along the lines of Parabiosis though I'll be very into it, I'm guessing the album will overall be more mellow/groovy/a grower but I'm into it.

The first single grew on me, "Parabiosis" clicked immediately. And the way they weave into each other is key, as by themselves they are perhaps not as strong. There's a very clear and engaging flow that links the full picture together.
They have a way with crafting a compelling aura that sucks me in every time. Perhaps they're a blindspot band to me, but I think it's another success for sure.

Peeped Subatlantic as my first pre-release single and I’m tentatively very happy with the direction.

lol Mars
prefer my idea of them catching up to the modern day and then their eventual swansong can be set in the future, broadcast from a satellite or another star somewhere looking down on the Earth as it is destroyed (by a climate related catastrophe of the human race's own doing)

Apparently this is how people who wanna sound fancy say "since last album"

Even if they meant since and including...they still gave this album, which is the only one that's come out since, a 4/5? Very confused.

"Apparently this is how people who wanna sound fancy say "since last album""
no, i meant the last album and the singles released off the upcoming album. hence the word "release", not "album"
"Even if they meant since and including...they still gave this album, which is the only one that's come out since, a 4/5? Very confused."
hmm, thought i had it at 3.5. happy now? people on this site get all up in arms over the tiniest of details when their favourite bands are touched with any negativity, geez

Phanerozoic I is flawless, it's on Phan II I'm starting to see things dwindle, though Holocene (the track) is the best of their ambient soothing material so far imo

Phan II is the best Ocean album they've made since Phan I.
