Ceremony is so hypnotic though
I have trouble labeling anything here weak

it's easy to be flippant about shit if you're secure over its value

I'm on my 2nd listen. Opinions subject to change.
But the album really takes off at Urantia

WELL IM NOT SECURE OVER ITS VALUE THEN

I mostly don't like the "oooOOoo"ing on Ceremony

"it's easy to be flippant about shit if you're secure over its value"
Not sure what this means
|
| |
how dare you not be secure in this objectively 5classic masterpiece by a band who makes music about dark sexual shit and psychological edgecred
i am apparently now secure enough in deftones being a good band to take the piss out of them with affection
|
| |
dark sex? I'm back on board.

"Not sure what this means"
if you're convinced that something is genuinely worthwhile, it's easy to poke jokes at its expense/parody it/treat it a little flippantly; if people aren't confident in this, they often compensate by being overly reverential or maximalising their praise to compensate for any anticipated crit. this is why i'm suspicious af about this hype train (a couple of users excepted). we shall see.

As someone who doesn't much care for the album - or the band, truthfully - 'Ceremony' and 'The Spell of Mathematics' were the two songs in which I found relative solace.
Not sure what that says about me or the album but there you have it.

Urantia has a sick opening riff but I'm not the biggest fan of the song as a whole
|
| |
I actually wanted some reasons though : (
I like a couple of their songs, but the gulf between my opinion of them as a band and their fans' opinion is so big, it's very intriguing to me

I think this hype train has been *somewhat* reasonable, with the exception of a few users who already claim this to be the best thing they've ever done, which is a little too much for now.

I think the melody of the chorus in Urantia is awesome
|

yes, that is nether helpful nor convincing (+ your takes have seemed p reasonable to me so far). touching base with White Pony, will probs jam this after

“how dare you not be secure in this objectively 5classic masterpiece by a band who makes music about dark sexual shit and psychological edgecred”
Deftones lyrics are just incoherent nonsense and have fuck all meaning.

Ah, yeah. I see what you mean now.
It's pretty dumb to feel like you need to (seriously) defend anything that you listen to. I love talking and debating music, but some people get a little too invested in it.

Spell of Mathematics is basically everything I want out of a Deftones song. Feels like it could have been on SNW
