I feel like they’ve been in steady decline since they released TWFM, in fact as much as I’ve grown to love it they’ve been in decline since HV. Boxer is their pinnacle.

I'd say Alligator, but Boxer is very close (:
they’ve been in decline since HV.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

They've been changing, for sure... declining, not so sure.

SWB I can actually listen to in one sitting without hitting the skip button.
This, unfortunately, I cannot seem to.

I've been opening up to it. I can see this getting to a 4 for me. Maybe even higher as time unwraps it.

there's just so many layers to each track, but unlike previous albums, the layers are within the vocals, not brass or percussion.

The vocal layering doesn't add much honestly, after a few songs I barely notice it anymore.

A total mush
The female vocals make me feel like I need to switch a setting off, like subtitles.
‘Do you have a hearing impairment that means you can’t make out Berninger’s mumbly vocals - well switch on ‘Clear n’ Clean female vocals!’. If you aren’t totally satisfied we offer you your money back!!

They convey all the emotion of Matt’s vocals being sung back to him by Siri

well, it is kinda growing on me at last, after growing off. something like a 3,8 would be more precise.

Honestly I was bored to tears I nearly bailed out at Kansas.
Quiet Light and Rylan were the only times my ears pricked up.
Certified doof turkey, lucky 2.5 rating thanks to loving the band already

Those are my favourites here as well Doof, coincidentally we also share the same rating. Strange but true.

It's good to see some people calling it. I'd love to be wrong about this album but there was an earlier comment by someone talking about a sterile nature in their late output and this is perhaps the best criticism I've read. Their new albums display the willingness to alter the formula somewhat, which is commendable, but I think they lost something important along the way.

The only thing that might hold this back from a 4.5 is his vocal melodies/performance
