I think it definitely does matter. The Christianity, I mean. Because inspiration or lack thereof shows up in the record. The Christian stuff was a catalyst that lead to inspired songwriting. So it is relevant.

Last minute of No Frame is actual Underoath quality.

There's a couple of true Underoath moments on here, but those moments are surrounded by this imposter

Just watched the making of doc that comes with the album. First off, Grant and James were not involved in the making of this record at all, that's a third of the band just excluded from the process... Now I know they were far from being main contributors or writers, but even Aaron says "if I were in Grant's position, I'd quit the band".
Basically Aaron and Spencer would get together to write poppy songs, the rest of the guys would get together once in a while to work on other stuff, it all ended up in a dropbox. They then went to Matt Squire with these demos and basically wrote the album in the studio. They continuously say that they used to write together during soundcheck or many hours in a practice space for every other record they made so far. Resulting in a record that was 90% done before they recorded it. I believe this album would've needed that as well. Oh and Matt Squire? Can't believe this dude made TREOS - Mi Fa Mi. "We need to get rid of all the breakdowns", "let's get rid of all the riffs". Yeah, no, thanks.
I don't hate this album, but when Spencer says "we needed to do something different, because if we just released another Underoath album it'd be forgotten in a month, so we had to write something that'd piss people off", I feel exactly the opposite. Erase Me is fine, but doesn't have any longevity to it. This truly reinstates my belief that records are always better when written in a rehersal space together.

I think this is really interesting especially with the new album out. From when LITSOS was being mixed by David Bendeth. Really shows how different the band’s attitude is now

Yea it’s really weird. I wonder if everyone in the band now is really as happy as they’re all saying.

All the stuff coming out now about the process of this album just make it seem more like a cash grab.

Ugh tough call on this one. Going poppier isnt necessarily a bad direction for Underoath but this is pretty uninspired for much of the runtime

how to enjoy this album:
1. Turn it into a small EP consisting of It Has To Start Somewhere, On My Teeth, Sink With You, Hold Your Breath, and In Motion. Sunburnt and Unsound can be included to remind you of what path they should've actually taken

Legit if you think this is good go listen to like 2 songs off of literally anything else they ever did and then come back and try to listen to 2 songs on this

@ spec
to have TOCS as a 3.5 and this as a 1.5 makes no sense... yes it's their weakest IMO since before Changing of the times but 1.5 is like unlistenable brain hurting noise and this is like at least a 2.5.
I could see if a bunch of people were 5'ing this and you are trying to bring down the average

Yeah, this fits squarely in the middle of their discog. Better than their first 2 and TOCS, but not nearly as good as their last 3 and Changing of Times. Aside from Sink With You, every song at least as engaging moments, even if a few songs take a little too long to get to them. Wake Me, ihateit, and No Frame are the best on here imo.

TOCS isn't that good but it's absolutely a good deal better than this
only reason i haven't bumped down yet is bc i have such respect for the 3 albums before this one tbh
