Yeah, those are two completely different scenarios. Read the comments from Zach Ansley for what exactly went wrong with LaBrie.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aYPyx5FgGs

Despite this however, Kyo shouldn't be able to anything after what he did in 2011.

Jas, pretty much all of the most recent lives from DSS Budokan onward. His screaming isn’t as visceral or extreme as it was prior to 2011, but he still teeters on the edge of what his throat can handle (i.e. Midwife or Revelation of mankind from Arche Budokan). His cleans though for the most part are pretty good and from the aforementioned live, it’s been pretty consistent in terms of quality.

Yeah, his explanation would sound credible. Personally, I thought the food poisoning thing explanation was a bit exaggerated in light of that considering Kyo has 2 episodes of inflamed vocal cords (2006 and 2009) and the more fatal vocal nodule dysphonia in late 2011/early 2012. I mean Kyo went through more wear and tear of his vocal cords by comparison to my estimation which is where I used LaBrie as a comparison as he’s the most notorious singer with having vocal problems hindering his vocal range and sound. Sure, two different scenarios and I’d be the first to admit fault in that but still, they both suffered some vocal problem of some sort.

his cleans have been pretty bad, he doesn't have anywhere near enough breath support most of the time and he frequently dodges notes (I've also heard him have trouble holding a key on several occasions)

Maybe my ears aren’t as sharp as they used to be. Then again, I’ve pretty much been in an underground industrial/noise phase for the best part of the year and haven’t listened to DEG as much as I used to as of late. IDK, maybe I’ve lost my mind regarding the subject and he really has lost his range and my opinion’s misguided out of my bias of loving post (and including) Uroboros DEG the most. Personally, I thought he sounded his worst in 2007-2009.

Tour08 The Rose Trims Again has some legit performances and the rather unknown Tour09 TV special is also pretty impressive.

2006 wasn't a great year for him vocally or mentally, but it gave them a lot of exposure in the States.

Yeah, he finally started to hit his peak in 2008. Also, plenty of songs from them does not require insane range, so they'll be fine. Can't wait for Mode Macabre and Withering.

He only voice cracked once lol, but he needs to calm the fuck down and do nothing for a year.

The Modes gave me Mode Vulgar and that alone makes me happy.

but i mean when he's doing shit like dodging the top notes in Sustain the Untruth it gets kinda sad

He was fucked by the end of Mode Marrow, and least he did that at the end instead of Hage. Plus that Sustain was more fun than a proper amazing performance so he didn't really need to be on point at that stage.

i think staggering the songs is definitely helping him in the performance department. Like doing Ware... at the start

Ware... being the first song on Mode Of Uroboros was probably a good idea. If that song came in later in the set, I don’t think he could’ve pulled it off as good as he did there. The unplugged intro for Inconvenient Ideal leading into the actual song on that live was a pretty cool rendition I have to say.
