This song is like a perfect mix of Pink Floyd + Jimmy Hendrix + Cannibal Corpse.

No its not, it was not a comparison. More a statement, opeth songs are not drawn out compared to other bands.

And things do not have to be the same to compare.

yes they do, in a general way. and even then the comparisons are pointless.

Just because some extreme form of metal exists that's as long winded as a musical style gets doesn't invalidate someone's perception that a song from a completely different band and genre drags on for too long.

Never heard the shortened version before, very interesting. It works quite good and somehow makes the song sound more alive but it also feels a bit rushed, especially towards the end. It's gaining in dynamics while losing in atmosphere.

grand conjuration might drag like hell but the good parts are so good, and worth it tbh. the verses, the heavy choruses, THAT solo

Keyblade I was never aware that existed, the one song they released is amazing:

yeah man it's one of my fav songs, swano's keys are just bless

I would trade 10 of this album just to hear that project come to life. it's been almost a decade since that song leaked tho so I doubt it will ever come to fruition

It's hard to envision Mikael doing anything with Swano anymore given the band's current musical direction.

Okay, so a bunch of people have been telling me to get into Opeth from some time saying they are fucking awesome, and why the hell not. They seem pretty good. Question is where do I start ? I've listened to a couple of songs, and Porcelain Heart is definetly my favourite. It's really damn good.

Well if Porcelain Heart is your favourite why not start with Watershed? That album is incredibly inconsistent but Porcelain Heart is probably the worst song and you like that so you should be fine.

Generally speaking though I'd say Ghost Reveries is a better starting point.
