After hearing heart shaped box and all apologies i pretty much felt impelled to buy this one, but i hadn't heard it in full ever before.

My chronology was
Heard Lithium - To this day the single biggest musical impact of me life.
Nevermind on a taped copy - Mindblower.
Heard Sifting and shit myself, bought Bleach - Loved it (staged dived onto me bed, bollocked by mum)
Insecticide came out but I didn't buy it straight away, had a copy on tape and dug it.
Bought a t-shirt.
In Utero released - It was the loudest thing ever back then.
Shotgun - Bottom lip quiver.

i don't remember life without nirvana, they were always just there. didn't really strike a chord til i turned 12 and the angst began to set in.
before that i just thought they were that catchy and kinda heavy band whose singer i couldn't understand. and also killed himself
then i bought bleach and couldn't understand how music so messy, sloppy and disgusting could ever find its way onto store shelves
rest is history really

They were just the best dudes. Yeah I used to flip-flop between saying PJ were the best, or Nirvana were or Siamese Dream was the best album, 'rooster' is me fave tune or Rage Against the Machine rocked hardest but Nirvana just had 'something' that nobody else could even dream of let alone touch.

siamese dream is the best album from that era but few bands ever captured my attention quite like nirvana did

something about kurt's lyrics rly put them in a league of their own, even with all the grungy imitators no one could paint a picture of sheer discontentment that dude could
preaching to the choir here but yeah idk havent thought about this stuff in a while

I wonder if Nirvana will ever get labelled 'classic rock' because as you said they seem to appeal to every generation as time moves on. Or maybe I'm overestimating all the 13-18 year olds I see wearing Nirvana shirts. They might just dig the smiley face, ain't got a clue about Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.
|
| |
Nirvana is considered classic rock now on like every radio station.

It's defo 'dad' rock now.
23 years have past since this was released, it's the equivalent of young zak listening to music from 1969. Fucking frightening.
|
| |
I think Nirvana avoids the dad rock tag though because like Clay say, they have always had a huge teen fanbase.
