Kurt Cobain: a mosquito a libido Al Pacino cappuccino

Nirvana fans: so raw, so real, from the soul. speaks to the pain of the human soul in the way nothing else ever has or will

Row, that’s a great lyric - if you can’t see why that is, I can’t help you bud

Nirvana were way more popular at their height than Radiohead after ‘Ok Computer’, like many many many more times, just think about that. Some crazy shit no?

Considering ‘Ok Computer’ is still regarded as ‘the best ever’ - in general and both here and on RYM specifically.

I don’t know how else I can put this in scale for you younglings

you tend to say these things without backing them up in any way and then tell everyone on the other side that they "just don't get it man you had to be there"

call it the doof slam dunk, works every time

Nirvana were fuck all about the lyrics.

They were relatable by way of not being overblown ‘rock stars’ or faux machismo bullshit or leopard print leotards and hair-sprayed mullets or straight outta Compton or augmented by a conjured scene or false purpose.

They screamed, and we screamed along with them.

Zak, Kurt’s lyrics worked well I think, quite surreal but memorable and always scanned in the most uncanny way

Underrated lyricist for me

Nirvanamania was a thing I'm sure. Means fuck all about the quality of the band. It's a simple premise for an argument dude

The Beatles are a good comparison because not having been there at the time I’ve never had that moment of ‘fuck yeah, the fucking Beatles man’ and honestly sometimes I’m not too bothered about them. I’ve grown to like and respect their discog but I completely own up to the fact they meant a hell of a lot more to a hell of a lot of people at the time. What’s more, I can see why and I get it, even if they’ll never transcend to that level for me. It’s what it is.

Don’t get me wrong after Nevermind “Teenage Angst has paid off well now I’m bored and old” is one of the greatest opening lines of all time but nobody really gave a fuck about the lyrics did they? Cobain was never held up as a lyricist, it was all about the apathy, sarcasm, choruses and ‘realness’ plus if you were a bird you wanted to shag it.

‘It’s a simple premise for an argument’

Well yup, I don’t think you really have an argument beyond your personal beef/taste. There is no argument.

‘Means fuck all about the quality of the band’

Kinda, I mean in the most ‘objective’ measures you can get of popularity, sales, live performance reaction, critical reception, enduring critical legacy they’re regarded as at the very least ‘an important, influential and good band’.

You don’t have to love them, or even like them. Just like The Beatles.

Im surprised someone could listen to Unplugged in New York and not take a step back from personal taste and see Cobain was a born performer and song writer but ok. I think Prince was fucking garbage for the most part but I get that he was a born performer and song writer, I’d never say he was ‘poor quality’ just not my thing.
