I think that has come through in all of their albums since MAYH. Seems to me like Akerfeldt has always paid tribute to 70's prog instead of doing something completely original. Either way, still good.

There are some elements that make opeth an original band across the metal spectrum depsite the notorious love of Mike to the 70's prog bands but in heritage a big part of those elements are gone, so this seems more like a good king crimson tribute album, that thing is not bad but that's not the reason why I get into this band

I think the sound is a mixture of both Camel and King Crimson, and practically all of english Prog rock- the flutes, the acoustic folk segments, the mild Jazz influences etc. But it is nonetheless a good album. It's a good tribute to classic prog, and it was good to see Opeth dwell into a relatively new style. At least I enjoyed it. "Devil's Orchard", "Pyre", "Haxprocess", and "Folklore" were fantastic songs.

i think the big issue with hax for people is that it's slow to start, but once it gets going it destroys, and then that outro....god damn

I'm hoping they don't continue to sound like a tribute to old acts.
