Personally, I feel as though the more melodic and slower feel of their last two albums reflects increased maturity, not only as musicians, but also as individuals. It seems that their first two albums were a little hectic and written with the primary goals being fast and heavy. The latter two albums show more attention to detail, with more elaborate melodies reflecting considerably more thought throughout the writing process. Still an ABR record, but better than the preceding two.

So, this is alot better than I remember it being, I couldn't get into it at all when it first came out.

The music is definitely starting to get samey, but Jake is really improving.

Yeah Jake's performance on this album is great. There's few parts that sound very similar to riffs from Constellations, that's probably the biggest drawback on this album.

Messengers is still the best whether it's immature or not. That album has never gotten old and I love every song on it. This is interesting though, Carpe Diem is pretty damn amazing.

The only thing that's starting to bug me with this band is the addition of guitar solos. At first it was more of a melodic guitar lead during the bridge, which was fine, but now several songs are featuring full blown solos which imo does not fit well with their sound.

Yeah I hate guitar solos 95% of the, they have to fit the part properly and blend with the music/flow of the song. The one in Ocean of Apathy was pretty sweet.

Yeah their melodic leads are their strong point and they're really trying to venture outside the box now. I didn't mind some of the solos but I dont really like the whole salsa thing they had going on on this album.

Exactly what I was thinking.

They need to stop abusing the key of C minor, that's their biggest drawback, there's only so much you can do with it.

I seem to bounce back and forth, burning myself out on Messengers then switching to Constellations and then to Leveler and so on. After a while I say screw it and throw in He Is Legend and remember how amazing "I Am Hollywood" is.
