a bad boi
also I'm getting from that ream is that compression and angst > songwriting
to which there are no counterarguments or antidotes
there is only patience and hope

i think the funniest part is ive explicitly noted my approach to music has fuck-all to do with anything technical and hyper-analytical (i'm not a professional critic, and i'm not really the type that'd take a job at pitchfork) but i'm still asked to quantify my statements with some sort of technical reasoning. i'm just a girl that has opinions lol calm down

A searched him up on YouTube and he's wearing a Van Halen t-shirt in one of the thumbnails

Is it wrong to completely disregard his opinion on Flipper solely based upon that?

ok you say things like that but then you do things like talk about musicianship and production and songwriting and I'm like, where is the voice here

van halen have some bangers but you're probably not wrong idk

"ok you say things like that but then you do things like talk about musicianship and production and songwriting and I'm like, where is the voice here"

i mean i get that, i'm just really only able to provide a baseline explanation for things because my approach isn't based on technical terms primarily, i'm basically not saying the songs of old are bad. i don't dislike them. i just like them less than what i hear coming out now.

and i've been trying to dig deeper into some "classics" from the 70s and 60s, and my conclusion seems to be the same. the velvet underground & nico, people hail as a masterpiece, but i found it sloppy and hard to listen to, that's based on my emotional response. david bowie might be the one guy where i was able to set everything aside and just vibe.

i mean it's all about perspective right? i just don't like it that much. i think this album sounds like a drunken bar band's jam session extended to 80 minutes.
